Journalists’ Union of Athens Daily Newspapers denounces the summons of a journalist
09 • 01 • 2022

The Union expresses its concern over the summons of journalist Gianna Papadakou, stressing that reporting and investigative journalism cannot be prosecuted.

Where is the problem with the rule of law?

In a state governed by the rule of law, individual rights are protected as well as the freedom of the press, and journalists have the right to freely and independently exercise their profession without censorship or influence.

Despite the guarantee of the freedom of the press under Article 14 of the Constitution, journalist Gianna Papadakou is called upon to defend herself in court for exercising her profession. The Union stresses that it is unacceptable to prosecute reporting and investigative journalism, as they are constituent elements of the freedom of information protected by the Constitution.
