According to the World Justice Project’s Rule of Law Index for 2024, Greece is ranked 47th out of 142 countries worldwide, a slight decrease compared to previous years. The country’s overall picture on the rule of law remains problematic, particularly at the regional level, where it ranks 29th out of 31 countries in the European Union, EFTA and North America.

Greece’s performance in areas such as restrictions on government power and open government continues to be a concern (24/31 and 27/31 respectively at regional level), while corruption remains a major problem, according to the report, with Greece ranking 52nd in the world and 27th among the 31 EU, EFTA and North American countries. Overall, the areas of fundamental rights and regulatory enforcement remain relatively stable, with Greece ranking 44th and 51st respectively in the world and 28th regionally.
