In a state governed by the rule of law, sexual orientation, gender identity and gender expression should not need to be hidden to avoid unequal treatment or violence. Unfortunately, discrimination against LGBTQI people persists even today when they seek work, health care or social services, or in the family sector (e.g. adoption/fostering).
